Day 29-Hopes, Dreams, and/or Plans for the next 385 days

This is a big one, or at least it seems like it is.
Lets see, I'd love for us to be getting ready to start on our kitchen remodel in about a year.
Hopefully Evan will be potty trained in about eight months or so.
And Evan will probably be moved to a real big boy bed-a full bed instead of his toddler bed.
Andrew on the other hand will hopefully NOT follow in his brothers foot steps and start climbing out of his crib until he's at least 2! :p
I would love for my thyroid to be figured out finally, and I'm hoping that by my birthday next year-July 21-I'll weigh less, like twenty pounds less would be awesome! :)
I am going to try really hard to get Evan's first year scrapbook done by Christmas.
It would be awesome if I could get our family scrapbook done up to Evan's first Christmas!! But considering I just finished the pictures of him in the hospital I don't know that that'll happen.
I'm hoping that Josh and I will be making a weekend trip up to IKEA so I can finally finish organizing my scrapbooking corner in the basement. Along with that, I hope to finally get the basement organized and cleaned up the way I'd like to look! Complete with a comfy leather chair and ottoman for me to read in!!! :)
Lastly, I just hope that we get to enjoy time being together as a family. I love being able to stay home with my boys, it's so amazing to watch them grow and develop their own personalities. I wouldn't change it for the world!

Day 28-What's In My Purse

Well, ever since I had Evan I pretty much quit carrying a purse. I didn't want to be one of those moms who has the diaper bag and her purse to worry about. So instead I keep my purse in my car and just put my wallet in the diaper bag whenever I go somewhere. But in my purse I usually have my wallet-duh, coupons, little picture books of the boys, fingernail clippers, car key, house keys, mail box key, handcuff key, gum, heartburn meds, lip gloss, and tylenol. :) (If anyone is wondering why I would keep a handcuff key in my purse...I keep it on my car keys because when I worked at the jail I bought my own handcuff key that's longer and turns so its easier to remove handcuffs with! And of course I keep it just in case I need to escape police custody Lol!!!!)

Day 17-My Worst Habit

Well given the fact that I have fallen behind on the blog a day challenge I think it's obvious what my worst habit it...well actually I kind of have two. I procrastinate and sometimes I start a project that I don't finish, or I take much longer than I ever should've to finish it. Like right now...I currently have four projects going that need to be done soon. Well one is a Christmas Present but I have to finish my part of it soon because I can't sew so it has to go to someone else to add the finishing touches. I'm making two scarves-crocheting actually-for a friend and her daughter. I don't want to give away any details because it's a complete surprise for them. Then I'm also making a baby's first year scrapbook for Mike Miller's silent auction. I'm so excited to be able to help such an awesome deputy and friend!

Day 26-Your Week In Great Detail

My week is really not that different than my day. Since I don't work I'm pretty much always home with the boys. Especially now since Josh is doing some work for a neighbor. It's basically like he's still harvesting because he's gone almost all day putting/replacing tile in some fields. I suppose the only change in my week is that Wednesday night is my bowling league night! :)

Day 25-Your Day--In Great Detail

I get up with whichever kid wakes up first, which is usually Evan around 7:30 or 8. We get up and have some breakfast and I always turn on some cartoons for him to watch while he munches on some cereal or yogurt. Once Andrew wakes up, I get both boys dressed, give Andrew breakfast, and start on whichever chores really need to be done. Which is almost always unloading and reloading the dishwasher followed by a couple of loads of laundry. I wish I could say I find the time to vacuum every day, but it's more like once or twice a week. The boys usually spend the morning playing, watching a couple cartoons, and generally driving me bonkers lol! In between breaking up wrestling matches-yes a 14 month old and a 2.5 year old have wrestling matches-constantly pulling Andrew off the couch where he likes to get into things on the end table that he isn't supposed to have, tripping over toys, and yelling at Evan for any number of bad behaviors he's picked up lately I barely even have the time to go to the bathroom!

I start lunch at about 11 so that the boys can eat at about 11:30 and I can sit down and watch the last half of Y & R-the only soap that I still watch faithfully! Once lunch is over I clean off the table and high chair and either finish loading the dishwasher or put the dishes in the sink to wait for the current load to finish. If I remember I go switch loads of laundry. Then do one last diaper change before nap time at 1. I weaned Andrew off his nap time bottle a couple months ago and he goes down without a problem. Evan on the other hand is a different story. Sometimes he goes right to bed and other times he isn't asleep until between 1:30 and 2. (So if anyone has any good tips for getting a 2.5 year old to nap, I'm open for suggestions!)

If I'm lucky I get two hours of silence. I usually end up watching the shows I DVR'd the night before while I clean up their toys and then work on a craft project. Right now I'm trying to finish up my counted cross-stitching Christmas gift and I also started crocheting a scarf for a friend who was diagnosed with cancer. Yet again Evan is almost always the first one up from nap. And lately he hasn't been sleeping any more than 1.5 hours. We usually end up snuggling on the couch together watching TV for a few minutes until Evan decides his toys are much more interesting. And he almost always immediately asks for his afternoon snack. Thankfully Andrew has typically been sleeping for about 3 hours in the afternoon, but he also has 6 teeth coming in right now so I suspect it's wearing him out a bit.

Once both boys are up from nap and have had their snacks. I'm typically right back to work chasing them around. The afternoons have been amazing lately so we've been taking advantage of our fenced-in backyard a lot lately. The boys run around and play while I sit on the patio and read my kindle. I typically start getting supper ready about 5 or so since we try to eat about 6 or 6:30. I wish I could say that I'm still as consistent as I used to be about what time we eat supper but since it's prime Harvest season I've pretty much been a single mom and easily lose track of the time chasing the boys!

Assuming we eat supper at our normal time, the boys get to play for about an hour before it's time for a bath and then it's off to bed! Evan is usually in bed by 8:30. Andrew still takes a night time bottle so he's usually in bed by 9. After the boys are both asleep, I usually end up staying u late finishing up chores, folding clothes, watching TV or a movie, reading, or crafting. Sometimes I'm doing a couple of these at the same time lol! I've always been a multi-tasker. I finally crawl into bed around midnight and get just enough sleep to get up and do it all over again!

Day 23-A Youtube Video

Again I find myself asking...just one?!
I suppose a new favorite of mine is this one...
The video of Dakota Bradley and CJ Holland singing "The girl is mine"

But one of my all-time favorites is probably...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6h1KsWNU-A
Who can't resist some cute kitties?!

Oh and of course...
Love it!

Day 22-A website

One of my favorite websites right now is www.customcrops.com I love this site because they have super cheap cartridges for my Cricut machine and they also have a lot of other fun discounted scrapbooking supplies! I have such a huge addiction to scrapbooking!!! :D

What we've been up to...

Although a new blog pops up on my page every day, I'm not sitting at my computer every day. I got smart and scheduled a bunch of the daily blog challenge posts ahead of time because I knew I'd be really busy this last weekend. And I definitely was.
Saturday I spent the entire day-9:30am to 11:00pm-at an all-day scrapbooking workshop in Nevada. I got quite a bit done in my albums and am proud to say that Evan is officially born! :) Now I just need to figure out which pictures I want in the family album and which ones I want in Evan's. This is also where things start to get a little crazy because now I'll always have 2 albums going instead of just one. But I got a great idea from a woman I met at a scrapbooking thing last fall. For her girls' albums she only does 12-2 pg spreads a year, in other words 24 pages per year. Instead of doubling up and having to do repeat pages in all three albums-her family album and then her 2 daughter's albums-she does pictures of everyone in the family album, pictures of daughter #1 only in her album and daughter #2 only has pictures of her in her album. Which seems like common sense until you get to holidays. But she says she does one 2-pg spread of Christmas and only puts pictures of the one daughter in her own album. Because she usually does one 2-pg spread of pictures of the sisters together. I thought that was the smartest idea ever and am totally stealing it for my albums! The rest of the good pictures I'll just-gasp-put in a regular photo album or never print at all.

I took the boys out for one more ride in the combine-I'll do another post later to show how much fun they had!

I've been spending the mornings up at my friend Angie's helping her out on the days that she has her physical therapy appointments. But of course I keep forgetting to take pictures of the kids playing with their friends. I need to do that so I have something fun to scrapbook! :p

Josh is officially done with harvest. He's finishing up some tillage but after that's done he'll be ready for planting season! :D They do have some "chores" to do around the farm, some things that were neglected this summer since they did all of their own spraying. So they'll be taking care of that. Josh is also going to be helping one of their friends doing some tile installation. Joe has a lot of old tile that needs to be replaced and a lot of fields that just need more drainage. So he's asked Josh to help do that since the guys he has working for him don't know that much about it and Josh is pretty good at it. It's nice because it gives Josh something else to do this fall and it's some extra money. But it sucks because it means that even though harvest is done, Josh still isn't done yet. Sigh...I can't wait until the ground freezes so Josh can be home more again!!!

Day 21-A recipe

Just one?! I already had this one typed up and it is probably THE BEST cookie recipe ever!

Nan’s Nummies Sandwich Cookies

Ingredients

Dough:

1 Cup butter, softened(I always use real butter, never marg.)

2 Cups all-purpose flour(May need a little more if it's humid and the dough seems too sticky)

1/3 Cup Heavy whipping cream

Sugar

Filling:

1/2 Cup butter, softened

1-1/2 Cups confectioners' sugar(Powdered sugar)

2 teaspoons almond extract (Can use vanilla, but almond is what I use)

4-8 teaspoons heavy whipping cream (I usually use 6, depends on the consistency and how humid it is)

Liquid or paste food coloring-optional

1. In a large bowl, beat the butter, flour, and cream. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour or until easy to handle.

2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Cut with a floured cookie cutter. With a small spatula move cookies to an ungreased baking sheet then sprinkle tops of cookies with sugar.

3. Prick each cookie 3-4 times with a fork. Bake at 375 for 7-9 minutes or until set-the edges of the cookies should just barely start to brown. I'd check them at 5 minutes, I know my oven tends to run a little hot so 5 minutes was all I baked them at. Remove to wire racks to cool. Or on newspaper or paper towels on your counter top or table.

4. For the filling, combine the butter, confectioners' sugar, almond, and enough cream to achieve desired spreading consistency. Tint with food coloring if desired. Carefully spread the filling on the bottom half of the cookies; top with remaining cookies. You can be fairly generous with the filling.

Day 20-A hobby of yours

Sign me up for a hobby and I'll probably love it! I'm huge into crafts, I scrapbook, do counted cross-stitching, crocheting, and I would love to get into quilting. I've tried knitting and it just wasn't for me lol! I love, love, LOVE to read! I have my Kindle and have been really tempted to get a few new genre's for me. I usually stick with romance and mystery/thriller books. But I kind of want to read the twilight series. My niece told me the Lauren Conrad series is good too. So who knows what I'll be downloading the next couple months! One of my other favorite hobby's is bowling! I'm in a women's handicap bowling league. We bowl every wednesday night and I love it! I'm actually super excited because I just got a new ball-it's pink!-so I can't wait to get the holes drilled and start using it!

Day 19-A talent of yours

I suppose an odd talent that I have is the ability to change my voice so I sound like one of the chipmunks or like Stitch off the movie Lilo and Stitch. I don't quite know how it is that I figured it out or even how to explain how I do it.
But I suppose a "real" talent of mine is my craftiness. If that can be called a real talent lol!

Day 18-My Wedding Day

The girls after our hair was done.

Finally putting on the dress.

Picture time.

Taking a break from pictures.

Our hands...I loved my flowers!

Kyla took some amazing pictures! Better than our photographer actually.

Our first dance!

It's official! I still have this tank top. I would probably wear it more if I weighed a bit less lol!

Day 17-An Art Piece

I've not ever really thought of myself as being artsy or into art. If I see something neat I'll say I like it but I don't always pay attention to the artist/creator. However, my best friend growing up was Rebecca Peterson and her mom loved art, especially Monet. So I've always kind of liked Monet paintings. But I'm definitely not one of those people who could or would design a room around a single painting. I suppose if I had to pick a Monet painting, it would be one from the water lilies series.

That was fast!

I am so, so very happy to report that due to the fabulous weather we've been having the last few weeks Harvest will officially be done with hopefully this weekend! Yay! Last year I'm pretty sure the guys were still finishing things up around Thanksgiving! So I'm trying to talk Josh into taking a weekend off-he's going to be doing some tiling for another local farmer as a side job this fall-and going up to Minneapolis/St. Paul to get away. I haven't really decided for sure yet if we should take the boys and a sitter or leave the boys and just go by ourselves yet. But for our honeymoon we were supposed to go out to Stillwater to take in the beautiful scenery but we both ended up getting sick! So I'm hoping that maybe this time we can actually do all of the things we want to do. Including going to IKEA to get my storage/organizing stuff that I have been dying to go and buy!

Day 16-A Song That Makes You Cry

I don't usually cry when a song plays, probably because I don't typically associate songs with events. I really can't think of a song that makes me cry!! I'm sorry guys, this isn't a very interesting blog post today! :s

Day 15-Your dream house

I think this is kind of a hard one. Every house I go into I find different things that I love or hate. I suppose I would just really love to have a big two-story brick house with at least 5 bedrooms and a few bathrooms. A large kitchen and dining room is a must. A big basement with room for a craft/hobby room for me, a "man cave" for Josh, and a toy/play room for the boys. If I could really have it my way, I seriously think I'd have a washer and drier on every level of the house because I hate carrying laundry up and down the stairs! Lol! Other than that I don't really know that I could be more specific. But I suppose the picture is a pretty accurate example of what I'd really love to live in.

Day 14-A non-fiction book

For non-fiction books I tend to sway toward law enforcement related books, for obvious reasons. :p (For those who don't know, I worked as detention officer for 4.5 years at my local sheriff's office and studied Criminal Justice in college. I have always wanted to work for the DCI-Department of Criminal Investigation-doing crime scene and forensic stuff.) I think one that really stuck with me was Armed & Dangerous: Memoirs of a Chicago Policewoman by Gina Gallo. She has a no holds barred attitude when it comes to talking about why she got into law enforcement and ultimately what made her quit. I love the fact that she isn't afraid to say exactly what happened or what her feelings were about different cases and situations. It definitely made me take second look at where I wanted my career to go and how hard I was willing to get there.

Saturday, October 9, 2010

Day 13-A Fictional Book

I like to read a variety of books, but usually stick around mystery and romance novels. However one series that I think a lot of people would like and get a kick out of is the Plum Series by Janet Evanovich. They are funny, yet interesting books with a few constant main characters. I love the Stephanie Plum series and am always anxiously waiting for the new book to come out! Thank goodness I have a kindle now! :p

Where did the week go?!

It seems like this week has just flown by! I've been going up to my friend Angie's in the mornings to help her out with her daycare kids. I think I mentioned a few weeks ago that she fell running one morning and broke her ankle. She ended up having surgery and being stuck on crutches for a few weeks, so I told her I'd help her out when she got her daycare kids back. The boys really seem like they are enjoying spending their mornings running around with all of the other kids. I know it's been so good for Evan because he just has so much energy. He's more than ready for nap time when we get home. Andrew I think is kind of missing the "mommy" time we normally have in the mornings but he has fun playing outside with Brady too.

The boys seem to be changing and growing so dang fast right now. Evan is really stuck on how many minutes are left until ______, insert event here. If I'm making lunch and I say it'll be a few more minutes he'll ask, "Two more minutes?" So I tell him how ever many minutes until I think lunch will be ready. His response is always, "Oh, ok. ___ more minutes." And then he'll ask again about 30 seconds later. I think this is so cute because he has no idea how to tell time yet, but he's obsessed with how many more minutes until lunch, or until we go outside, or we go bye-bye. He does have his days where he'll say, "No more minutes!" And gets a little upset when I tell him that it doesn't work that way. But he's learning and it's just so gosh darn cute!

Andrew gets smarter by the day I swear. He can wave and say bye, which is adorable. He'll throw his arms out to the side and say "Gone" too, which is funny. He can also say "Nana" for banana, "Ni, ni" for Night, night, "Ba" for bath, and he can of course say "No, no." Surprisingly he's already starting to try to repeat things that he hears. This just amazes me because Evan didn't really start talking and trying to say "real" words until he was a bit older. But it's nice too because it's getting easier to understand what Andrew wants/needs. If you ask him a yes or no question, he'll answer you about 90% of the time, so that's nice too. His stubbornness is really starting to come out too, but thankfully he isn't as bad as Evan...yet :p I just like the fact that he actually listens when I tell him No or to stop doing something. That's one thing that Evan has never done well so it's nice to finally have someone listen! :) I feel so bad for Andrew right now though because we finally got rid of the ear infections but now he's got his top one-year molars cutting. They broke through a few days ago, so now I'm just hoping they don't take too long to come all the way down so that he's not too uncomfortable for too long. The kid just can't seem to catch a break!

Harvest is in full swing so Josh is almost never home. He comes home to sleep and that's about it. I actually stopped at Casey's on my way back from Nevada this morning because Josh was there taking a little break and Evan hadn't seen him since Sunday. I'm hoping to get the boys out to the fields again this weekend to go have fun riding in the Combine and Tractors with Josh, Larry, and Jerry. I took the boys out last Sunday afternoon after their naps and they were just in seventh heaven. Josh was in the combine so Evan rode with him a few rounds, and Larry was in the tractor pushing some branches and fallen trees off the edges of the field so we strapped Andrew into the little jump seat and they were off. The boys had an absolute blast riding along. Andrew wanted to drive so bad, poor guy! I think Evan was just content to sit and ride along and watch what Josh was doing. But now whenever Evan asks where daddy is I always tell him he's at work. Evan's response is, "Oh yeah, daddy bombine." He can't really say combine yet so he says daddy is in the "bombine" which always makes me smile! :-)

Other than that nothing exciting has been going on. We lead a pretty boring life ;p

Day 12-Something you are OCD About

I can only put one thing I'm OCD about?!?!?! I have been OCD about many things for as long as I can remember. I have however started to let some of the littler things slide. But my dishwasher has to be loaded a certain way, otherwise I'm convinced that the dishes won't come out clean. We have fiesta plates and bowls in a wide variety of colors. And when I put my plates away I don't like the colors to be together, seems kind of odd right? We have 13 plates-Andrew broke one last week-and a few are duplicates, I don't like the two purple ones right next to each other, or the two red ones, the dark red ones, etc. It drives me crazy and I don't really know why.

Day 10-A Photo taken of you over 10 years ago

This was taken roughly ten years ago...track meet at PCM.

Day 9-A Photo You Took

I took all of these! I kinda like taking pictures :)

Monday, October 4, 2010

Some of my favorite foods!

Seafood stuffed mushrooms, my own special recipe. And they are super yummy!

Apple crisp...well kind of. I forgot to peel the apples, and I should've used the recipe for the french apple crisp because this one was too runny. It was pretty good though.

Yummy buttermilk onion rings. We don't make these very often because they are really, really bad for you. But they are soooo good!

Day 8-A Photo that makes you angry/sad

The fact that Evan never got to meet such a great influence in his dad's and grandpa's lives, his Great-Grandpa Don. Evan was named after Don and it hits me like a ton of bricks about once a month, how much fun Don would've had with the boys. Taking them on tractor rides and playing with them on the farm. It's just one of those things that you can't help but wonder what kind of influence he would've had on Evan and Andrew, and any other grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Day 6-20 of My Favorite Things

1. The boys' smiles!(I can't pick one!).
2. A lazy rainy day
3. Being able to actually watch one of my favorite shows the FIRST time it's on.
4. A yummy home-cooked meal.
5. Surprises, there just aren't enough of them anymore.
6. Going one day without having to do a chore-not that it happens!
7. The smell and feel of clean sheets when you first get into bed for the night.
8. Seeing something "old" for the first time through my kids' eyes, there's just something so amazing about their first reactions.
9. Being able to go grocery shopping...alone!
10. A day that's just about me! Getting my hair cut, a massage, a pedicure, and my nails done...although none of these things ever happen all on the same day.
11. The way Andrew runs to me with his arms out like he hasn't seen me in weeks!
12. The crazy sounds that Evan makes when he plays on the lovesac.
13. Watching the boys grow and interact with each other, they actually play together now which is just so much fun to watch.
14. NOT having to clean toys up two or three times a day.
15. Date nights out with Josh, these definitely don't happen enough anymore.
16. Going to a store and finding out that one of the things I went for, or have been wanting for a while, is on sale!
17. To sing with the radio as I drive to town, because I know that the boys don't care.
18. Getting an unexpected card/letter/package in the mail.
19. Going to bed early without a million things on my to-do list.
20. Being able to stay home every day with my boys and watch them learn and grow.

One Lovely Blog Award

The fabulous new mommy Kaylan over at What more can I say... gave me this nice pretty blog award-it's my first! I'm so happy to be receiving my first ever blog award...who knew something so simple can make you so happy?!?!

1. Accept the award. Post it on your blog with the name of the person who has granted the award and his or her blog link.

2. Pay it forward to 15 other bloggers that you have newly discovered (Not all of these are "newly discovered" and I only have 12).

3. Contact those blog owners and let them know they've been chosen.

Here are the 12 blogs I chose:

Day 5-Your Favorite Quote

This has always been a favorite quote of mine.
Do not go where the path may lead, go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.
Ralph Waldo Emerson
I have always been a firm believer in being independent and doing what you want because you want to do it, not just because someone else thinks it's "cool." I think anyone who has known me for a long time knows that this is definitely a fitting quote for me.

But this one is a close second.
What lies behind us and what lies ahead of us are tiny matters compared to what lives within us.

Henry David Thoreau

Day 4

Favorite Book

This topic is much, much harder than a favorite song or movie because I love to read. I got a Kindle for my birthday this year and have definitely gotten my, well Josh's, money back lol! I suppose I would have to say that my all-time absolute favorite book is A Thin Dark line by Tami Hoag.
This was the very first murder/mystery novel that I ever read and it really got me into reading. It also inspired my little known love of writing. I've loved writing for almost as long as I can remember. I used to write poems when I was younger but have ventured into short stories lately. Tami Hoag has always been one of my favorite authors. I just really like her writing style. But I also like Nora Roberts, James Patterson, John Sandford, and Janet Evanovich.

Day 3

Favorite TV Show

While there are plenty of shows that I like, and many that I have set to automatically record on our DVR, I can without a doubt say that Gilmore Girls has always been my favorite TV show. I was so sad when it ended, but at the same time it'd run its course and didn't really have anywhere else to go. But I will fully admit that I have all 7 seasons on DVD and watch the whole series about once a year-usually while I'm scrapbooking :p

Some of my other favorites are Nash Bridges-pretty old, Numb3rs, ER, 19 Kids and Counting, and I'm getting into the new series Sister Wives.

Day 2

Favorite Movie

This one is almost as hard as picking a favorite song. But I think I can narrow this one down more than I could with the songs. It's probably a tie between Dirty Dancing and Grease. I could sit and watch either one of those movies over and over. Other contenders were Because I Said So, Save the Last Dance, Super Troopers, Monsters Inc, and the Harry Potter series. But in the end I had to go for the classics, and of course as a "chick" I kind of have a soft spot for the cute and sappy love stories. :D

30 Day Blog Challenge-Day 1

So, after seeing a few of the blogs I follow doing this 30 Day challenge, I decided I'm game! I can blog every day for 30 days...I hope lol! :p
I am a little behind however so I'm going to catch up today.

Favorite Song

For me, picking a favorite song is really hard. I am such a music lover, my iPod has everything from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers to Eminem to Carrie Underwood to Linkin Park and everything in between. I'd have to say that one song I just can't seem to sit still when it's on is California Girls by Katie Perry. But I love American Girl by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. And how can you not like Hazy Shade of Winter by the Bangles?! This is probably as specific as you'll ever hear me get about favorite songs. I just can't think of one that is a favorite. But I suppose the song that has the most meaning for me is The Way You Look Tonight by Frank Sinatra because that's the song that Josh and I danced our first dance to as a happily married couple! :)
