No motivation.

Today I just didn't have that much motivation to do the things I really needed to do. I didn't make any progress on laundry, and there's a basket on the chair overflowing with the boys' clean clothes that I have absolutely no desire to fold and put away. I did do a load of dishes this morning. And I even cleaned up all of their toys when they went down for their naps. But that has been the extent of my cleaning today. Instead I worked on recipe cards for scrapbooking club. I've also started re-doing my recipe cards so they look cuter, so I worked on that too. And of course I worked on my counted cross-stitching Christmas gift. It's coming along nicely! I can't wait to get it done!

Andrew's adventures at Lutheran Hospital

Waiting...don't these people know how hard it is to keep a one-year old busy when you can't give them anything to eat or drink?!?!?!

Nurse Jackie came and took Andrew back for the surgery. I have to say that all of the staff was very, very nice and Andrew was definitely well taken care of!

After...he was a little grouchy at first but after some snuggling with momma, and his blankie, and started feeling better. And of course the fact that he could finally have something to drink helped too!

Andrew's surgery was amazingly short and went very well. I'd say the total time it took from them taking him to the OR to bringing him back to me was about 45 minutes. So 45 minutes to knock him out, do the surgery, then take him to recovery for him to wake up. Of course we had to be there at 6:30-yuck! And they didn't take him back for the surgery until 7:30, that was the hardest part. We ended up sitting around for about 30 minutes, waiting for him to be taken back. It is so stinkin' hard to keep a mobile one-year old busy for thirty minutes! Especially when he is starving and thirsty and you can't do anything about it. So there were lots of little tantrums. Thankfully the staff at Lutheran were very nice and took very good care of him, well us I suppose. We had to stay there another 20 minutes or so after they brought him out of recovery just to keep monitoring him to make sure he came out of the anesthetic ok. He chugged some pedialyte, and man was he happy to be able to have something to drink!

By the time we left the hospital he was a happy camper. I think he was happier that we were leaving! He waved and said bye, bye to the nurses...he even blew them a couple kisses! Since he was feeling so good I decided to go visit my dad at work. Plus I figured my dad wouldn't mind a surprise visit. We actually went up to my dad's floor, he works at EMC, so he could show Andrew off to his co-workers. Of course they all loved him! By then all Andrew was focused on was his cereal. On the way to my dad's building from the parking garage he discovered the bowl of cereal in the diaper bag so he was busy feasting! (A side note for the other moms out there...Pops Cereal came out with some new flavors, they come in a bag and you can mix them to get different combinations. There's marshmallow, milk chocolate, fudge, strawberry, and graham...I just get the graham because my boys haven't had any of the other super sweet cereals yet.) He just kept shoveling the Pops in, he looked like a little hamster or chipmunk! It was cute. I think dad was glad for the distraction! Plus I don't think his boss minded one bit :p (He's kind of his own boss lol!)

After leaving EMC we headed home. We made a couple of quick stops in Ankeny and then were glad to finally make it home! Andrew was still so hungry that he was dying for lunch by then...11:30. So I made grilled cheese sandwiches because the boys love them and they are quick. Andrew ate THE WHOLE SANDWICH!!!! Usually he eats about half of it. Oh no! He ate the entire thing minus one crust-the first little sliver I cut off to start cutting the sandwich. He also ate some peas, bbq chips, and some fresh apple chunks. He was definitely a starvin' Marvin! :)

Now that he's had a good meal, a nap, and some time to play, he is already a much happier boy than before! I am really looking forward to some better nights ahead!!!

Since Andrew has to get his tubes in tomorrow, I figured I'd take advantage of the wonderful weather and our season passes to Center Grove Orchard and go play! There weren't any activities scheduled since it was a weekday, but it was too nice to not go outside. Andrew and Evan loved the corn pool! What kid wouldn't, honestly. Andrew tried many times to eat the corn but mom wouldn't let him...mean mom, I know!

Procrastination Station

So my goal for today was to get the bathroom cleaned up while the kids napped...not happening! It's now 3 and the kids will be waking up any minute now. I just hate cleaning the bathroom! Maybe tomorrow.. :p

In the meantime, I can say how excited I am that tomorrow morning Andrew will finally be getting his tubes put in! I am so glad because the poor kid has just been so cranky the last week or two. And the last couple of days his balance has been really bad. I realize that he's a toddler and can't walk perfectly yet, but he's been falling a lot the last few days and I know it's because of his ears. The poor kid has two bruises on his forehead now. When he falls he usually leads with his noggin...so he's been having lots of and lots of snuggling and cuddling sessions with momma lately. Hopefully after tomorrow all will be right in the world again!

Fall weather

After the horrible Iowa summer we had this year I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that I just love fall weather! For some reason the cool and crisp air just gives me so much energy. In fact I'm only taking a small break from my latest cleaning craze to check a few things, and of course write this little entry, before going back to cleaning.

With two small boys in the house, it seems there is always something that needs to cleaned. I'm working on cleaning off the dining room table-again-because Sandy and Larry are coming in for dinner tonight. We're making a beef roast on the grill, seafood stuffed mushrooms, skillet potatoes, and apple crisp. I'm excited to say that we are making everything. Nothing was pre-made or pre-packaged at all. And I'm not usually much of a dessert maker but I love apple crisp and haven't made it since high school so I kind of figured it was high time for me to make it again! Maybe I'll take some pictures of our "feast" to share later. :p

Psych...

Andrew did not get his tubes today. Silly me...I thought today would be a consultation/surgery all in one appointment but it wasn't. He's now scheduled to get his tubes in Wednesday morning...ugh! Don't these dang doctors understand what it's like to live with a cranky one-year old?!

Oh boys...

So yesterday while I was making dinner Evan came running to the gate and says, "Momma look!" "What Evan?" as I look at him.

He points to his butt and says, "Butt."

"What about your butt?" I ask as I'm laughing at him.

"I'm wet." He says and then runs away

Yup...thats a boy for ya'!

A Day Out With Thomas

Sunday we took the boys to the Day out with Thomas event in Boone. The weather wasn't the greatest but the boys were troopers and we spent a few hours there. I had pre-ordered tickets to make sure that we'd be able to ride the train. It was a great experience, however I think we could've waited another year when Evan most likely would've been a bit older and maybe a little less impatient.

We boarded the train about 15 minutes before it left and we probably should've thought ahead and been one of the last to get on so we didn't have to sit in one place so long. The boys got antsy really quick. There were signs posted everywhere that said no food or drink...well evidently those people have never had a 2 and 1 year old. So we broke out a small snack to keep the boys happy until the train finally started moving. It was a short 25 minute ride so we just went a few miles outside of town and then back, but the boys really enjoyed it.

Since it was constantly misting the whole time we were there we didn't sit around outside very long unless we had to. There was a big tent set up with a bunch of train tables set up for the kids to play with the different trains. Evan of course loved this area and didn't want to leave the tent, we had to bribe him by telling him we were going to ride the choo choo. Which we were but we had to go stand in line to get his picture taken with Sir Topem Hat first.

We also got a family picture taken in front of Thomas. Evan thought it was so neat that he got to see the choo choo. He even got a temporary tattoo of Thomas on his hand and he got really upset when it was gone a couple days later. He loved to look at it and then he'd run over to me and say "Look momma! Choo choo!" That boy sure does love his choo choos!

I don't know if you can see it very well but there's water on the stroller tray. It was misting just enough to be annoying.

Evan ran right to this table, found a train, and then wouldn't let it go! We had to show him the other things there were for him to play with to get him to let someone else play with these electric trains.

They had a couple tables set up with the wooden magnetic trains that Evan already has a ton of. But that didn't stop him from claiming a few trains for himself to play with.

This was the only time I got him to look up and smile.

I was surprised Evan would even hold his hand. But you can tell he wasn't getting any closer than he had to!

It's amazing at how something as simple as a train ride can keep the kiddos quiet!

This isn't the same picture from above, but this is how Evan spent about 80% of the ride...just looking out the windows and pointing to what he saw and telling us about it.

There was even a conductor who came walking through all the cars greeting the kids. He was a really nice guy and you could tell that he liked the kids a lot.

No more ear infections!

Well after fighting chronic double ear infections for the last five months, Dr. T finally decided Andrew needs tubes. Which is something that I've been hinting at wanting to get done the last couple of times I've had to take Andrew in for his ears. The last two times he's had to be put on a much stronger antibiotic, the last round of which he started about 2 weeks ago. The antibiotics did absolutely diddly squat. So Friday we're going to an ENT in West Des Moines and getting tubes put it. I'm a little nervous for his surgery, what good mommy wouldn't be? But I think that he'll be just fine. I'm just excited to finally have my happy and healthy Andrew back!
